Subtiter upload video interface showing drag and drop upload area with progress indicator

Upload is the first step in the Subtiter workflow. Once your file is uploaded, the AI transcribes the audio, and you can choose subtitle styles, customize them, preview, pay, and download your subtitled video.

1 Open Subtiter and sign in

Go to subtiter.com and sign in to your account. You can sign in with Google or email - it's free to create an account, and it takes less than a minute. Once signed in, you land on the dashboard where your videos and projects live.

2 Start an upload

On the dashboard, click the Upload button or drag and drop a video file into the upload area - drag & drop is the easiest method. You can also click the upload zone to open a file browser and select a file from your device. The upload starts immediately once a file is selected, and a progress bar shows the upload percentage.

Tip: Want to work on multiple videos at once? Open Subtiter in separate browser tabs - each tab can handle its own upload and editing independently.

3 Wait for upload and processing

A progress bar shows the upload status. After the file is uploaded, Subtiter processes it by extracting audio for AI transcription - the typical wait is under 2 minutes. The status changes from "Uploading" to "Processing" to "Ready." When it shows "Ready," the video appears in your dashboard and you can proceed to selecting subtitle styles.

Best practices for upload

1

Clear audio matters most

Videos with clear, low-noise speech produce significantly more accurate AI transcriptions. If your video has background music, try to keep it at a low volume during speech segments. The AI can handle some noise, but clean audio gives the best results.

2

Use a stable internet connection

Use a stable Wi-Fi or wired connection for the best experience. If the upload is interrupted mid-way, you'll need to start again. Keep the browser tab open until the upload completes and the status changes to "Ready."

3

MP4 is the fastest format

MP4 (H.264 codec) uploads and processes the fastest. If your video is in another format, consider exporting as MP4 first. MOV files also work well but may take slightly longer to process.

4

Keep videos under 15 minutes

Videos longer than 15 minutes will be rejected. If your content is longer, split it into shorter clips before uploading. This also gives you better control over subtitle styles per segment.
